An Apologetic for
Jesus Christ as Lord
I, like many folks my age, grew
up in a typical American home: a Mom and Dad with a
few kids. Dad went off to work each day, while for
most of my formative years Mom was at home while we
kids went off to school. For most of my early
years, my Mom took me and my brothers off to church
on Sunday mornings. However, "living the
Christian life" was not as much a focus of our lives
as "living the good life." When we relocated due to
a job change for my Dad, we stopped going to church
altogether. My Dad worked hard in his new position,
was very successful, and put us all through school
where my brothers and I (and after we had all left
home, my Mom) all learned good technical skills that
allowed us to succeed in our chosen professions.
As I grew older and began to get
very successful in many of my endeavors, I had an
inner longing for something that I could not name,
and just felt that there had to be something else.
One day, at a Gator gathering, my Dad's former boss
(from our relocation mentioned above), invited me to
come hear a Christian comedian they were having at
their church that week. We went to the show and had
a really great time. I know this may be hard to
imagine, but if you can imagine a Christian version
of Robin Williams, that was what it was like. We
laughed and had a great evening. After the show, we
went to one of the church member's home for dessert
and fellowship afterwards. On the way home,
Christine and I just knew that we had found
something that we wanted to experience more of. We
decided that we were going to start going to church.
As we did, we have decided to commit our lives unto
Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We have been
greatly blessed to learn from many wonderful
teachers of the Word of God, and have been
continually growing in a very wonderful Christian
walk that sometimes takes us into places that are
just amazing. It is difficult to really put into
words how wonderful it is to be "living the God
life." Each and every day brings something
else for us.
You may be wondering, "is this
God stuff really true?" I am very confident
that it is. I am as confident that Jesus is
who he said He is, the Son of God, as I am that two
plus two equals four. I have no doubt that the
Bible is true. The more that I study the Word
of God, the more I am convinced that it alone is the
real truth.
If you want to investigate some
of the evidence for Jesus as Lord for yourself, I
highly recommend
The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. Here, a
former atheist and award-winning investigative
reporter investigates the possibilities of Jesus as
Lord. Additionally,
Reasonable Faith by Dr. Jay Wile and
Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell
clearly make a powerful case that it is only
reasonable to trust in the evidence for Jesus as
Lord.
